A Saudi date festival sells for $17 million in a week

Sales of the dates festival in the Saudi city of Buraidah exceeded 62 million riyals (about 17 million dollars) within seven days.


The festival's statistics committee said, in a press statement issued today, Monday, that "the dates festival in Buraidah (central country), which is organized by the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Qassim under the supervision of the Emirate of the region, achieved sales of more than 62 million riyals within seven days of its launch and received more than 9 thousand A car loaded with more than three thousand tons of dates of more than thirty types.”


The Buraidah Dates Festival is the largest in the world as a seasonal agricultural economic gathering in terms of sales deals that take place in the market squares.


Saudi Arabia ranked first in the world in date exports last year, which amounted to 1,215 billion riyals.


It is worth noting that the value of the palm and date sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is approximately 7.5 billion riyals, or 12% of the total agricultural output and 0.4 of the total non-oil output.


The number of palm trees is 33 million, which represents 27% of the total palm trees in the world. The number of agricultural holdings for date palms in the Kingdom is 123 thousand.
