How do students spend their spare time today?

It is the top three choices for students to arrange their spare time.

64.5% of the parents surveyed felt that the parent-child time was of a higher quality than before.

How do students arrange their spare time?

Cultivating hobbies, sports and reading are the three choices

Zhao Zhixun's son, who lives in Harbin, Heilongjiang, is in the second year of junior high school. He introduced that since the "double reduction", the child has become much happier.

"There is less homework. Every day's homework is completed at school, and there is no need to write homework when I get home from school."

He observed that the feelings of primary school students are more obvious. "It used to be rare to see children playing together in groups after school. Now it is a common sight. It not only exercises the body, but also liberates the nature."

But he also mentioned that as children have more time for leisure and play, parents should guide and arrange reasonable arrangements. "Some children will be addicted to electronic products such as mobile phones, which will lead to a decline in academic performance, affect their eyesight, and become 'home'."

The daughter of Cheng Ming, a teacher from a university in Wuhan, is in the first year of junior high school. She introduced that now her daughter comes home from school and often plays badminton and goes out for a walk together. It has become the norm to exercise.

"There are a lot of learning tasks for children in junior high school. I hope she can relax every day. On weekends, I will arrange for children to take art training classes to expand their interests."

Yue Guqing's child in Beijing's Miyun District is in the sixth grade of primary school.

"Children can finish their homework very quickly every day now, and often invite their classmates to play ball near their home, which was completely impossible in the past. Because the language teacher encourages everyone to read a lot, and also borrows favorite books from each other with classmates. Now I can read books for half an hour on average every day. I will also take the initiative to help adults share some housework.”

Since the "double reduction", how have children's spare time been arranged?

The survey shows that cultivating personal interests and hobbies ranks first, with 66.2% of the parents surveyed choosing this option.

This was followed by physical activity and exercise (57.4%) and reading extracurricular books (50.6%).

Others include: playing with peers (39.3%), helping with housework (32.0%), and doing homework (23.5%).

58.7% of the parents surveyed felt that their children’s work and rest were healthier and more regular

Cheng Ming recalled that before the "double reduction", the teacher would assign a lot of homework every day, and the children would always get back some exam papers or exercises after school. After finishing the homework, it was past 9 o'clock in the evening, there was no time for exercise at all, and the mood was relatively depressed.

After the "double reduction", the workload of homework has been reduced a lot. Every day after school is a relaxing time. The family chats and laughs, exercises together, and has time to expand and extend their hobbies. "The child smiles a lot, I can I feel she is now mentally relaxed."

Since the implementation of the "Double Reduction", 58.7% of the interviewed parents mentioned that their children's routine has become healthier, 46.9% of the interviewed parents felt that their children's interest in learning has improved, and 45.8% of the interviewed parents expressed their interests and hobbies 40.8% of the parents surveyed felt that their children were more willing to communicate and express themselves.

With more time to spend together, 64.5% of the parents surveyed felt that the parent-child time was of more quality than before.

The proportion of parents who feel more quality is higher in lower grades of primary school, at 71.3%.

Yue Guqing said that in the past, when children came home from school, they either did homework or went to remedial classes.

There are few topics of communication between families.

Now there is a lot more communication with the children, and the family is closer.

Li Liguo, deputy dean of the School of Education at Renmin University of China, said that parents should be aware of the current changes in national education policies.

"Reducing students' schoolwork burden, promoting students' all-round development, and cultivating students' autonomy are the main directions of 'double reduction'. Secondly, a child's good grades at the current stage does not mean good grades in the future, and good grades do not mean good future career development and personal development. The key to a person's success and talent is that the individual can find a suitable development point, and the individual needs to have a certain ability to develop independently. It is necessary to establish a quality education concept for parents, and to correctly view the relationship between performance and future career development."

Among the parents of primary and secondary school students interviewed, 45.7% of their children are in grades 1-3, 39.0% are in grades 4-6, and 15.3% are in junior high schools.
