The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) revealed that the value of clean energy projects in Dubai reaches 35 billion dirhams over the next five years, indicating that this comes within the overall plans for energy projects in the emirate with investments amounting to 86 billion dirhams.

In detail, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, founder and president of the exhibition "WETEX and Dubai Solar Energy", said that the value of clean renewable energy projects to be implemented in the coming years in Dubai amounts to 35 billion dirhams.

Al Tayer added that some of these projects are currently under implementation, such as the renewable energy project in the Hatta region, which is considered one of the huge projects, and a qualitative new initiative at the regional level through a hydroelectric plant with a capacity of 250 megawatts that can be connected to the grid within seconds.

Al Tayer explained that the clean energy projects come within the total energy plans in Dubai amounting to 85 billion dirhams over five years, some of which include plans for infrastructure facilities, including overhead lines, ground lines, and substations, in addition to water lines and tanks, pointing out that the focus is currently on Water projects include switching from traditional methods of desalination to desalination methods by means of reverse osmosis systems and in the future expanding the use of these systems.

He stressed that “renewable energy projects in Dubai are proceeding rapidly according to the directives of the wise government leadership, as it was intended, for example, to reach 7% of the clean energy contributions during the current year, while the rate of 9% exceeds the expected rates. The target is to reduce carbon emissions by 16% over the past year, but we were able to reach 22%, ”indicating that it is also targeted that the production capacity of clean energy by 2050 will reach 5,000 megawatts.

Al-Tayer stated that according to the assessment of the reports of neutral international bodies, the authority has reached advanced and top international levels in various fields, as the previous loss of electricity in the authority reached 7%, and finally it reached 3.3%, while in the American and European markets it still ranges between 6 and 7%. While the percentage of water loss in Dubai has reached about 6%, while global rates are now 15%.
