The lawsuit, which is also directed at streaming service owner Google, states that Youtube should have labeled the creators' videos as offensive or sexually explicit, solely because of the sexual orientation of the movie clips. It reports Indiewire.
The filmmakers also claim that Youtube has lagged among LGBTQ subscribers and removed their videos from recommendation lists, which should have affected their ability to make money on their films. In addition, the video creators believe that Youtube does not apply these guidelines to content that is openly hostile to host.
“We are proud that so many LGBTQ creators have chosen YouTube as a place to share their stories and build community. All content on our site is subject to the same policies, ”Youtube writes in an email to Indiewire.
