The Gipuzkoan musician Iñigo Muguruza , a member among others of the Kortatu and Negu Gorriak groups, has died at 54 years of age, as reported by Negu Gorriak on his twitter account. Through this same social network, his brother Fermin Muguruza, also a companion of musical adventures, has expressed his affection to Iñigo and has sent him a "see you soon" message.

Iñigo Muguruza Ugarte was born in Irún (Gipuzkoa) in 1964. Brother of the also musicians Fermin Muguruza and Jabier Muguruza, participated in the groups: Desband (converted into Beti Mugan), Kortatu, Delirium Tremens, Negu Gorriak, Joxe Ripiau and Sagarroi, in those who played bass and electric guitar.

Apart from his musical side, Iñigo Muguruza was a multifaceted artist. He directed a short film, participated in the staging of the play 'Ezekiel' and wrote a book of children's stories.

Kortatu, with his brother Fermin

In 1984 he formed, together with his brother Fermin and Treku Armendáriz, the Kortatu group. Fermin was in charge of singing and playing the guitar, Iñigo took care of the bass and Treku of the drums. Members of the so-called 'Basque radical rock', were pioneers in introducing ska in Spain.

The group was released in 1985 with a compilation called 'The disk of the four', along with Scar, Jotakie and Kontuz-Hi !. Later they recorded three studio albums (Kortatu, 1985; The State of Things, 1986; Kolpez Kolpe, 1988) a live album (Azken Guda Dantza, 1988), a compilation for Europe (A Frontline Compilation, 1988) and a maxi -single (A la Calle, 1986), in addition to several singles.

After the recording of 'Azken Guda Dantza', the group broke up. In 1990, Iñigo Muguruza joined Delirium Tremens as a second guitarist. With the band he recorded 'Hiru Aeroplano', his latest album with Oihuka. The album was produced by Kaki Arkarazo, who also served as a sound technician at his concerts.

That same year the birth of what turned out to be one of the most important Basque groups of the 90s was revealed: Negu Gorriak. With this group (Fermin to the voice and Iñigo and Kaki to the guitars) they started a rock incorporating elements of rap and black music (soul and funk), punk and hardcore that they already practiced in Kortatu.
