It is reported that the Lalin Railway has a total length of more than 400 kilometers. It is the first electrified railway in Tibet. The design speed is 160 kilometers per hour. The total length of the bridge and tunnel is about 300 kilometers, accounting for nearly 75% of the total length of the line.

According to Zhang Wei, chief engineer of the Lalin Railway Cooperative Construction Project Department of the China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co., Ltd., more than 90% of the Lalin Railway is located on a plateau with an altitude of more than 3000 meters. Among the above-mentioned 47 tunnels surveyed and designed by the unit, there are 14 high-risk tunnels and 6 extra-long tunnels with a length of more than 10,000 meters.
