Tennis player Rafael Nadal has received the Silver Cross on the merit of the Civil Guard for his collaboration with the Armed Institute to promote the National Interuniversity League of Challenges in Cyberspace.

According to the Civil Guard, the deputy operational director, Lieutenant General Laurentino Ceña Coro, imposed this award on Nadal in a recent ceremony held at the headquarters of the Balearic Islands Zone of the Armed Institute.

During his speech, Nadal stressed that it is a "true honor " to receive this recognition and thanked "the great work that the Civil Guard does every day." This allowed him to comment that "when we see you, citizens feel safer and better accompanied."

For his part, the deputy operational director of the Armed Institute underlined the "selfless support" of the tennis player in the dissemination of this project, as evidenced in the promotional message he recorded and that has reached more than 200,000 people, making it possible for more than 1,000 young people enrolled in the cyber league.

The Silver Cross recognizes his " brilliant work, " according to Lieutenant General Laurentino Ceña Coro, as the cyber league ambassador who has performed "exceptionally."

On the occasion of its 175th anniversary, the Civil Guard has launched the first National Interuniversity League of Challenges in Cyberspace, a pioneering initiative to capture youth talent that was presented in June by acting Interior Minister Fernando Grande Marlaska.

The promotional video of the Cyberleague was starred by Rafa Nadal, and in it "challenged" the students to demonstrate everything they knew about cybersecurity.

The competition took place between the months of September and November. The winners of this first cyber league were the 'Hackit' team of the University of Granada in the team modality, and the student of the Autonomous University of Madrid, José Ignacio García Gómez, in the individual modality.
