• Like the movement of Canadian truck drivers, “freedom convoys” were set up in France.

  • The first left Nice on Wednesday morning to reach Paris at the end of the week.

  • Several convoys are to set off from different towns in Hauts-de-France on Friday morning.

This Wednesday morning, the first “freedom convoy” in French version left Nice to reach Paris.

This protest movement against the health measures linked to the Covid-19 crisis, modeled on that of Canadian truckers, is spreading in France with departures planned from all over the country during the week.

In Hauts-de-France, the demonstrators are organizing to set off on Friday morning.

Originally, the "freedom convoy" was born of the discontent of Canadian truckers who contested the obligation to vaccinate to cross the border with the United States.

Organized in convoys, the truckers converged on the capital, Ottawa, with the firm intention of blocking the city, the highways, obtaining the lifting of health restrictions and, as a bonus, the departure of the Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.

For the French demonstrators, the idea is generally the same, but a little broader.

Sanitary pass, vaccination, fuel prices...

In Hauts-de-France, as everywhere else in France, the movement has organized itself through Facebook groups and on Telegram.

The page “The convoy of freedom Hauts-de-France” brings together 12,000 members, a figure which has doubled in one week.

There are many "yellow vests", a movement that had run out of steam before regaining momentum by opposing first the health pass and then the vaccination pass.

Their demands also relate to the price of fuels or even against “liberticidal laws”…

In the Hauts-de-France group, the freedom convoys are scheduled to set in motion on Friday.

The first departure is at 6:30 am, in Calais.

There will then be staggered departures from Valenciennes, Lille, Laon and Chauny.

The organizers are planning an arrival in Paris around 7 p.m. the same day.

However, it is difficult to know more, especially on the estimated number of participants and the means of transport that will be used.

The administrators of the group and most of the members are reluctant to answer journalists' questions: "They all have the right to the same speech, ''no interview'', no leader, apolitical movement", writes one of the administrators .
