Director Hwang Dong-hyuk won the Baeksang Arts Awards for Best Director in the TV category.



At the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony held at KINTEX, Ilsan, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, on the afternoon of the 6th, director Hwang Dong-hyuk received the award for his Netflix drama 'Squid Game'.



Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, "I was not able to prepare my impressions because I did not expect the award at all."



Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said, "It took a long time to make this work. I thank Netflix for trusting and investing in a work that was difficult to make. I would like to thank CEO Kim Ji-yeon for encouraging me to read the script I wrote ten years ago and think that this script is not for domestic use but for international use. Also, I would like to thank all the actors, including Lee Jung-jae, Oh Young-soo, Jeong Ho-yeon, and Heo Seong-tae, for choosing a bizarre and difficult work."



He continued, "I started writing season 2 a while ago, and I will come back with a good project soon."



'Squid Game' is a work depicting the story of those who participated in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won, risking their lives to challenge the extreme game to become the final winner.

After being released in September of last year, it caused a syndrome to occupy the world's top spot in the drama category for 46 consecutive days on Flix Patrol, an OTT platform ranking aggregation site.
