"The Awaited Mahdi" mobilizes his followers on "Facebook", and the Egyptian security intervenes
The security services in Egypt arrested a person claiming to be “the awaited Mahdi,” and the last of the “Guides” in Gharbia Governorate in Egypt, who was using social media sites and a mobile phone number in his “call.”
According to a number of Egyptian newspapers, the security services arrested a man in the Qutour Center, claiming to be the "Awaited Mahdi", who was using Facebook to mobilize disciples and convince them that "the Antichrist's agents" are chasing him and trying to hinder him from spreading Islam.
The security official implicated in the case said, “The accused put a sign on the door of his house, four months ago, saying: “The House of the Awaited Mahdi,” and wrote on it his mobile phone number, and “claimed that he is memorizing the Qur’an.”
The accused appeared in a video recording recorded by one of the activists, in which he says, “As long as there is an impostor present, there must be Mahdi waiting.” He added, “We are in the time of the Antichrist, and people must know.”
And the Egyptian media quoted the security official as saying that the security services tracked a page run by the accused, and the necessary report on the incident was issued, to be presented to the Public Prosecution to initiate the investigation and complete the legal procedures.
It is noteworthy that in May of last year, the Egyptian security services arrested an administrative employee in the Beheira governorate in Egypt who also claimed that he is the “Awaited Mahdi.” In 2017, these services arrested a person with the same claim, and the court sentenced him to two years in prison.
