Willie Sutton, a thief from the Great Depression, was once asked why he robbed banks and replied, "Because that's where the money is."
The anecdote was remembered a while ago by The Economist, but it is fictitious.
Sutton himself denies it in his memoirs.
He stole because he enjoyed doing it.
"I loved it," he writes.
He attributes to "some journalist who needed to fill out paper" the merit of the phrase, although he does not deny it either.
