HOYA, a major optical glass manufacturer, has experienced a system failure at its head office and multiple offices, causing orders and shipments of eyeglass lenses to be suspended. The company is urgently working to recover the data as there is a high possibility of unauthorized access by a third party.

According to HOYA, on the 30th of last month, it was confirmed that a system failure was occurring at the company's headquarters and multiple offices.

As a result of this, the production and ordering systems for multiple products have stopped, and orders and shipping of eyeglass lenses have also stopped.

HOYA's eyeglass lenses have the top share in Japan, and this is also having an impact on retailers.

Among these, major eyewear retailer ``Jins'' has temporarily suspended the handling of some lenses at all stores, including online shops, since the 31st of last month.

According to HOYA, as a result of the investigation to date, it is highly likely that a third party gained unauthorized access to the company's servers.

The company is urgently working to restore the system and is also investigating the possibility that confidential company information and personal information may have been leaked.

In addition to eyeglass lenses, HOYA also produces products used in the semiconductor manufacturing process and medical endoscopes.
