Iran's Supreme Leader threatens Israel after attack on its consulate in Syria

Iran cries for revenge, more than two days after the strike against its consulate in Damascus by Israel. The latter left around ten dead, including two important military commanders responsible for military operations in Syria and Lebanon. Tehran's hardening tone raises fears of a new escalation in the region.

In a speech to the country's political and military leaders, Iran's

number one

, Ayatollah

Ali Khamenei

, directly threatened

Israel

with reprisals after the attack on

the Iranian consulate

 in Damascus. “

The failure of the Zionist regime will certainly continue. Desperate attempts, like what they did in Syria, will not serve them. They will also be slapped for this action. They have fallen, through their own action, into a trap that will not allow them to escape. With each day that passes, this regime will weaken and approach its destruction

,” said Ali Khamenei on Wednesday April 3.

Fear of escalation in the region

His speech was greeted with cries of “

death to America and death to Israel

.” We do not yet know whether Tehran will intervene directly against Israel or make its allies act in the region, notably the Lebanese Hezbollah, the Shiite militias in Iraq or the Houthis in Yemen, who have increased their actions against Israel.

Some conservatives suggest that Tehran could strike targets in Israel itself, in reaction to the attack on its consulate.
