Domestic electricity consumption growth rate will increase in 2023

Electricity consumption in emerging industries maintains growth momentum

This newspaper, Beijing, March 26 (Reporter Liao Ruiling) The 2024 Economic Situation and Electric Power Development Analysis and Forecast Conference hosted by the China Electricity Council was held in Beijing on the 26th. Yang Kun, executive vice chairman of the China Electricity Council, introduced at the meeting that in 2023, domestic electricity consumption growth will increase, and electricity consumption in emerging industries will maintain a growth momentum. The electricity consumption of the whole society reached 9.22 trillion kilowatt hours, an increase of 576.4 billion kilowatt hours compared with 2022, a year-on-year increase of 6.7%, and the growth rate increased by 3.1 percentage points over the previous year. The per capita electricity consumption reached 6539 kilowatt hours, a record high. Electricity consumption in the high-tech and equipment manufacturing industries increased by 11.3% year-on-year, exceeding the overall growth level of the manufacturing industry by 3.9 percentage points.

In terms of industries, in 2023, the primary industry's electricity consumption was 127.8 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 11.5%, continuing the growth momentum; the secondary industry's electricity consumption was 6.07 trillion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%, showing a clear rebound trend; The electricity consumption of the three industries was 1.67 trillion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 12.2%. The growth rate was 7.7 percentage points higher than the previous year, and the momentum of rapid growth was restored. Among emerging industries, the electricity consumption of photovoltaic equipment manufacturing increased by 76.8% year-on-year, the electricity consumption of new energy vehicle manufacturing increased by 38.8% year-on-year, and the electricity consumption of the charging and replacement service industry increased by 78.1% year-on-year, showing a strong growth trend.

The green and low-carbon transformation has achieved remarkable results. In 2023, the electrification level of domestic end-use energy will continue to improve, and the substitution of electric energy in key industries such as industry, transportation, and construction will continue to advance. In 2023, the electrification rate of the industrial sector will reach 27.6%, and the electricity consumption of strategic emerging industries will grow rapidly. The electrification rate in the construction sector has reached 48.1%, and the application scenarios of heat pumps, electric refrigeration and heating have continued to deepen. The electrification rate of the transportation sector has reached 4.3%, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles has exceeded 35%, and a total of 8.596 million charging infrastructure units have been built, an increase of 65% year-on-year. The largest charging infrastructure system with the widest radiation area in the world has been built. Currently, China's electric energy accounts for about 28% of final energy consumption, ranking among the highest in the world.

New energy sources such as wind power and photovoltaics maintain their leading position in the world. In 2023, the construction of large-scale wind power and photovoltaic bases focusing on desert, Gobi, and desert areas will be accelerated. The first batch has been completed and connected to the grid with more than 45 million kilowatts, and the second and third batches have been approved for more than 50 million kilowatts, and construction is underway. construction. The country's newly added grid-connected wind power installed capacity was 75.66 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 37.05 million kilowatts; the newly added photovoltaic power generation installed capacity was 216 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 128 million kilowatts. The newly installed capacity of wind power and photovoltaic power generation accounted for 78.8% of the total newly installed power generation capacity, becoming the absolute majority of newly installed capacity. Under the conditions of an average annual growth of 26% in new energy installed capacity in recent years, the utilization rate has remained above 95% for five consecutive years. The total installed capacity of grid-connected wind power and photovoltaic power generation nationwide has exceeded the 1 billion kilowatt mark from 760 million kilowatts at the end of 2022, reaching 1.05 billion kilowatts at the end of 2023, a year-on-year increase of 38.6%, accounting for 36% of the total installed capacity. China's wind power installed capacity has ranked first in the world for 14 consecutive years, and its photovoltaic power generation installed capacity has ranked first in the world for many consecutive years.
