China News Service, March 25. The 2024 Annual Meeting of the China Development Forum will be held on March 24-25, 2024. The "Carbon Neutrality and Global Climate Governance Symposium" was held on the afternoon of March 24. Liu Zhenmin, China's special envoy for climate change affairs, said in the "Keynote Speech 2" session: Scientific and technological innovation is an important driving force for the global response to climate change.

Liu Zhenmin said that scientific and technological innovation is crucial to global decarbonization and improving countries' ability to adapt to climate change. Especially in the process of energy transformation, the large-scale application of renewable energy, the clean and efficient use of fossil energy, carbon capture, utilization and storage, and the flexibility and stability of smart grids are all inseparable from technological innovation. The International Renewable Energy Agency report pointed out that in the past ten years, the average LCOE of global wind power and photovoltaic power generation projects has dropped by more than 60% and 80% respectively. A large part of this is attributed to Chinese innovation, Chinese manufacturing, and Chinese engineering.

Liu Zhenmin pointed out that China has made important contributions to maintaining global energy security and promoting low-carbon energy transformation and innovation through its own efforts. It is hoped that we can uphold the concepts of innovation, coordination, green, openness and sharing, seize the development opportunities of the scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, promote the research and development and application of advanced energy-saving and carbon-reducing technologies, promote the construction of a global green and low-carbon industrial supply chain, and improve green services and trade. level of cooperation, promote the intelligent and green transformation and upgrading of economic, energy, and industrial structures, and provide new momentum for the global response to climate change through the development of new productive forces.
