China News Service, March 25. The 2024 Annual Meeting of the China Development Forum will be held on March 24-25, 2024. The "Carbon Neutrality and Global Climate Governance Symposium" was held on the afternoon of March 24. Jian Siming, President and CEO of UL Corporation in the United States, said in his speech in the "Group Discussion Three" session: In the energy transition, strengthening cooperation is the key to coping with and key to security-related challenges.

Jian Siming elaborated on the relationship between innovation and security in the energy transition. Technological innovation is crucial in green transformation. As corporate social responsibility reporting requires risk-based standardized, mandatory disclosure, technology will play an important role in this process, which will affect the measurement, reporting and verification of carbon emissions. But at the same time, innovation also brings risks, especially the security risks caused by transformation. UL's survey of 1,600 corporate CEOs in 16 countries shows that 90% of people have a positive attitude towards the global response to the climate crisis, and 90% of them believe that there are already corresponding technologies to deal with the climate change crisis. It is worth noting that almost all respondents believe that security issues are crucial in the energy transition and that new risk challenges have emerged, but only 17% believe that there are sufficient resources to ensure security.

Jian Siming believes that strengthening cooperation is the key to meeting security-related challenges. Governments can integrate various stakeholders through local, national and global regulatory frameworks. Businesses should set sustainability goals to achieve a safer energy transition. At the same time, governments and businesses should work together to make more efficient use of existing resources and technologies to achieve climate change goals.
