On March 18, CNOOC announced that it had made another 100-million-ton discovery in the central and northern parts of China's Bohai Sea - the Qinhuangdao 27-3 oil field, with proven oil in place reserves of 104 million tons. This is the first time in 10 years that this area has discovered oil in place. Obtaining major oil and gas discoveries is of great significance to further consolidating China's offshore oil and gas resource reserves and ensuring national energy security.

Qinhuangdao 27-3 Oilfield is located in the north-central part of the Bohai Sea, about 200 kilometers west of Tianjin City, with an average water depth of about 25 meters. The discovery well Qinhuangdao 27-3-3 encountered an oil layer of 48.9 meters, and the completed drilling depth was 1,570 meters.

After testing, the oil field has a daily crude oil production of about 110 tons from a single well, showing good exploration prospects.

"Based on normal mining, Qinhuangdao 27-3 Oilfield can produce nearly 20 million tons of crude oil. After being refined into gasoline, it can meet the daily transportation needs of urban residents with a population of one million for more than 10 years. The refined asphalt can pave more than 100,000 kilometers of four-lane highways. The highway is equivalent to circling the earth more than three times." Zhou Jiaxiong, deputy general manager of CNOOC Tianjin Branch, said.

Xu Changgui, deputy chief engineer of CNOOC Exploration, said that the Qinhuangdao 27-3 oil field is another 100-million-ton oil field in the central and northern Bohai Sea after 10 years. It is also the sixth 100-million-ton oil field discovered by the Bohai Oilfield since 2019. The successful discovery of this oil field further confirms the broad oil and gas exploration prospects in the complex strike-slip fault zone of the Bohai Sea. It will inject strong impetus into the development of my country's offshore oil fields and is of great significance to stabilizing my country's energy rice bowl and assisting the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei. .
