Home appliances and industrial equipment connected to the Internet, known as the "IoT," are becoming more and more popular, but at the same time, the risk of cyberattacks based on suspicious communications is increasing, with 30% of all attacks targeting such devices. It has gone above and beyond.

In response to a series of incidents in which video data from surveillance cameras is leaked due to external manipulation, the government has decided to start a new system to evaluate the safety of IoT products from next fiscal year in order to strengthen countermeasures. became.

Under the new system, security will be evaluated on a four-level scale, starting with Level 1, which meets minimum standards such as using encryption technology for communications and keeping control software up to date. I am planning to do so.

For Level 2 and above, we plan to work with relevant industry organizations to establish specific standards and begin evaluations from next fiscal year onward.

By making such evaluations a requirement for government agencies to procure equipment and issue subsidies, the government hopes to encourage companies to take action and improve the safety of products against cyber attacks.
