China News Service, Shanghai, March 14 (Reporter Li Shuzheng) Major projects are an important starting point for effectively expanding investment and stabilizing growth.
As an important engine of Shanghai's economic development, Pudong New Area's planned investment in major projects in 2024 has reached a record high.
On March 14, at the 2023 Key Project Practical Contest Commendation and the 2024 Major Project Construction Mobilization Meeting held in Pudong, Li Shuxun, director of the Shanghai Pudong New Area Construction and Transportation Committee, introduced that in 2024, Pudong New Area will formally arrange major projects throughout the year. There are 465 projects, with an annual planned investment of approximately 165.6 billion yuan (RMB, the same below). The annual investment has reached a record high, with 123 new projects planned to be started and 86 completed.
According to officials here, Pudong’s major engineering projects in 2024 will focus on four aspects: boosting industrial development, serving urban construction, promoting ecological civilization, and ensuring people’s livelihood and well-being.
The recently released "Overall Plan for the Construction of the Shanghai Oriental Hub International Business Cooperation Zone" clarifies that by 2030, the Shanghai Oriental Hub International Business Cooperation Zone (hereinafter referred to as the Oriental Hub) will be fully completed.
The Oriental Hub is not only Shanghai’s “gateway to global cities” but also “a window for the integration of the Yangtze River Delta.”
Among the many major engineering projects announced by Pudong New Area that day, there are many infrastructure construction projects related to the Oriental Hub.
The eastern extension of Rail Transit Line 21, which is responsible for the traffic distribution function of the Eastern Hub, and the Zhou-Deng Expressway (S3-G1503), one of the important channels for external communication of the Eastern Hub, will be accelerated this year; the Eastern Hub, Jinhai Road (Yanggao Road) -Reconstruction projects on the east side of Huadong Road) and other projects will also be promoted.
Officials here stated that Pudong New Area will continue to promote the construction of a hub-type, functional, networked, and intelligent modern infrastructure system for large urban areas in 2024, and support the development of key areas and industries with a multi-level infrastructure system.
The latest official data shows that as of the end of February, 465 major formal projects in Pudong in 2024 have completed fixed investment of 22.8 billion yuan, with 20 projects started and 7 completed.
