First shipment of humanitarian aid arrives in Gaza by sea

A first shipment of humanitarian aid arrived by sea in the Gaza Strip this Friday, March 15.

Some 200 tons of food which took several days to reach the Palestinian enclave.

This is very little compared to the immense needs of the 2.3 million Gazans threatened with famine.

But NGOs like the States involved in this humanitarian effort do not intend to stop there.

A 370 kilometer odyssey, between the island of Cyprus and the Gaza Strip.

The ship

Open Arms

, from the Spanish NGO of the same name, took four days to inaugurate the “

 maritime corridor

” announced last week by the European Commission.

As soon as it arrived near the shore of Gaza, this Friday, operations began to unload the 200 tons of humanitarian aid transported on a barge, towed by the ship.

Update from Gaza🎥 WCK is offloading almost 200 tons of rice, flour, proteins & more that arrived by sea earlier today.

At the same time this shipment is transported ashore, our second vessel is preparing to set sail from Cyprus with hundreds more tons of food.

The other NGO involved in this test trip is called World Food Kitchen.

It broadcasts images of a makeshift pier built on the Gaza beach to facilitate this and subsequent deliveries.

A second humanitarian aid ship is already loading in the port of Larnaca, Cyprus.

However, in the opinion of all those involved in the humanitarian field, we are still very far from a system that will make it possible to have a real impact on the supply of the Palestinian population in the enclave.
