It is understood that the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway is an important part of China's "eight vertical and eight horizontal" high-speed railway network, and is also the largest high-speed railway line in Guangdong Province. Construction of the entire line started on June 30, 2020, with a total investment of approximately 99.8 billion yuan. RMB.

The line starts from Guangzhou Station, passes through Foshan, Zhaoqing, Yunfu, Yangjiang, Maoming, Zhanjiang and other cities, and ends at Zhanjiang North Station. The total length of the main line is approximately 401 kilometers, with a designed driving speed of 350 kilometers per hour. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. .

According to the project department of China Railway 14th Bureau, the construction company of the Zhanjiang Bay Submarine Tunnel project, as a control project for the entire Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway, the Zhanjiang Bay Submarine Tunnel has a single hole and two lines, with a total length of 9.64 kilometers, passing through nearly 2.5 kilometers of Zhanjiang Bay. The sea area is currently China's longest single-head excavation distance of the large-diameter "sea-crossing city" high-speed rail shield tunnel. It has the characteristics of a large excavation section, poor geological conditions, a lot of waste mud, easy mud cake formation, and high construction standards.

After the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang high-speed railway is completed and opened to traffic, it will take one and a half hours to reach each other from the central city of Guangzhou to the central city of Zhanjiang. It will fill the gap in the coastal areas of western Guangdong that does not have ballastless track high-speed rail and become a link between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Hainan Free Trade Port. , an important part of the high-speed railway corridor in the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration, integrating the Yangjiang, Maoming and Zhanjiang expressways into the coordinated development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
