my country's 5G network is the largest in the world!

Green antenna technology helps save 12% of electricity →

This year's "Government Work Report" proposes to accelerate the systematic layout of major scientific and technological infrastructure and promote the construction of common technology platforms and pilot verification platforms.

Pilot testing is a transitional test that transforms new products in the trial production stage into industrial applications. It is also known as the "last mile" for the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements.

The pilot test is a key step in turning the "fruit" of science and technology from raw to mature, and it is also a step full of difficulties.

Let’s pay attention to the pilot tests behind 5G technology↓

In a communications equipment company in Guangzhou, technicians are discussing process optimization of a newly developed 5G antenna.

Entering the 5G era, they will launch as many as 20 to 30 new antenna products every year.

The person in charge of R&D said that the energy consumption of 5G base stations has increased than before, and their green antenna technology can reduce the power consumption of base stations by more than 12% under the same coverage.

But every time a new product is born, the new design will expose different problems.

In order to detect and solve problems in advance before large-scale production, performance testing of new products produced in small batches is required.

Third-party laboratories helped them test samples, one of which was located in Yizhuang, Beijing.

At the entrance of the laboratory, batches of products are waiting for testing.

CCTV reporter Ning Kun: After entering the darkroom, you can see a large orange ring with a diameter of 6 meters and a maximum height of 9 meters.

Such a ring is actually a set of laboratory equipment specially used to test the performance of 5G base station antennas.

There are 128 small probes in one circle of the entire ring. As the base station antenna in the center of the ring rotates, these probes can capture and test the transmitting performance of the antenna at different angles.

In order to meet the industry's soaring pilot test demand, in 2017, two years before the official commercialization of 5G networks, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology built this third-party public laboratory, which can complete an antenna in about 5 minutes at the fastest. test.

Zhou Kaibo, director of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology’s Taier System Laboratory: There should be only about 10 laboratories of this size (in China).

The shortening of testing time is actually very beneficial to shortening the time from research and development to market launch of the manufacturer's products.

In the system engineering of 5G network innovation, the pilot test of antennas is only one part of it.

At present, our country has built the world's largest and most technologically advanced 5G network, with a total of 3.38 million 5G base stations.

How do various types of equipment work together to achieve optimal results?

Some problems even enter the "no man's land" of innovation.

Back at the laboratory in Beijing, technicians showed reporters the test equipment reproduced after collecting signals along the high-speed railway.

With such equipment, newly developed mobile phones and other terminal products no longer need to be tested on high-speed rail for a long time.

Test Engineer Wang Feilong: Including tunnels, viaducts, plains, mountains, and high-speed train meeting and entry and exit stations, etc. These scenarios can be reproduced in the channel simulator.

Terminal manufacturers can conduct detailed analysis on the information reported by the terminal at the moment when the network is disconnected (during testing), so as to improve their algorithms.

Industry experts believe that although pilot trials in my country's manufacturing industry have continued to advance in recent years, overall investment in pilot trials is still lacking.

Data show that currently, only 37.3% of industrial enterprises above designated size have carried out research and experimental activities.

Chen Xuedong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering: (In the past) there was a lack of commonality and key technology research between technical research and final product realization, which was actually related to pilot testing.

For strategic emerging industries and future industries, new business formats, new industries, and new functions can be spawned in these directions and new productive forces can be developed.

In response to the above issues, this year's "Implementation Opinions on Pilot Test Innovation and Development in Manufacturing" newly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission proposed that it is necessary to build modern pilot test capabilities, improve the pilot test service platform system, accelerate the development of the pilot test software and hardware industry, and optimize the pilot test Develop ecology to provide strong support for accelerating the realization of new industrialization.

Liu Bochao, deputy director of the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology: The "Opinions" clearly stated that a comprehensive and professional pilot public service agency should be built.

We will strive to have basically full coverage of pilot testing capabilities in key industrial chains by 2025.
