Overall, Germany's consumers are holding back - but not when it comes to buying bicycles.

The industry is satisfied with sales last year.

According to the Two-Wheeler Industry Association (ZIV), more e-bikes were sold than conventional bicycles for the first time in 2023.

“Bicycles and e-bikes are very popular with consumers despite the economic situation,” said the managing director of the ZIV, Burkhard Stork, to the dpa news agency.

The association wants to present concrete figures from the industry for the past year in Berlin this Wednesday.

After the boom of the Corona years, bicycle sales slowed somewhat in 2022.

Because of the high demand, production increased significantly at the time and there were delivery problems.

Then the market cooled down again.

According to the ZIV, demand remains high.
