After 2018, under the guidance and support of the State Administration for Market Regulation, this work has been further strengthened.

In 2017, a total of 50 large and medium-sized cities across the country were selected for evaluation. In 2018, the number of cities evaluated increased to 70. Since 2019, it has been fixed at 100 cities. The scope includes municipalities, provincial capitals (capital) cities, cities under separate state planning and some social consumer goods retail. The consumer satisfaction evaluation index system in 2023 consists of 3 first-level indicators, 17 second-level indicators and 27 third-level indicators. The China Consumers Association organized a third-party professional survey agency to conduct surveys in 100 assessed cities in the fourth quarter of 2023. Investigations were carried out simultaneously, and a total of 61,812 valid consumer samples were recovered.

Among the three first-level indicators, the scores of "Consumption Supply" and "Consumption Rights Protection" are 81.78 points and 79.21 points respectively, which are an increase of 1.24 points and 1.68 points respectively compared with 2022, which is a large improvement.

From the perspective of different age groups, the differences in consumer satisfaction scores of each age group in 2023 are small. The highest score is for the 15-24 year old group (80.56 points), and the lowest score is for the 55-70 year old group (79.07 points).

For comparison, consumers are divided into four categories according to their monthly income levels: 3,000 yuan and below, 3,000-5,000 yuan (inclusive), 5,000-8,000 yuan (inclusive), and above 8,000 yuan.
