Despite a context of drastic savings, 70,000 civil servant positions are currently to be filled.

On the occasion of the “Choose the public service” fair, the State seeks to make these vacant jobs attractive.

A turnaround for the executive which had at one time announced that it wanted to eliminate 120,000 civil servant positions to save money.

Gone are the days when Emmanuel Macron promised to cut 120,000 civil servant positions to save money.

In a context where civil service jobs are no longer a dream, with unattractive salaries and poor prospects for advancement, the State must play its part in HR management.

This Tuesday, in Paris, the second edition of the “Choosing public service” exhibition is being held.

70,000 vacant positions are to be filled.

8,000 jobs for the Armed Forces, 4,000 for justice, 2,000 in national education.

After having created more than 50,000 positions in 2023, the State is still hiring public agents.

A choice assumed by the Minister of the Civil Service Stanislas Guérini, who wants to rearm public services and considers the debate on reducing the number of civil servants "behind us".

Can we further reduce the number of civil servants?

With nearly six million agents and more than 300 billion euros in payroll, cutting back on the public service could be an important savings lever.

But the French will not accept it, believes Anne-Sophie Alsif, chief economist at the BDO firm: “Since Covid in particular, there is a real need for public services in the health sector, national education, justice. defense, politicians talk less about job cuts, about massively cutting civil servants.”

Since Bercy imposed ten billion savings, the Ministry of Civil Service must nevertheless save 800 million euros on the payroll.

According to the minister's office, this will involve unreplaced retirements and the postponement of certain recruitments in administrative functions.
