Production and sales in January and February were “unevenly hot”

Data from the China Automobile Association shows that in January 2024, automobile production and sales completed 2.41 million and 2.439 million units respectively, a year-on-year increase of 51.2% and 47.9% respectively; in February, automobile production and sales completed 1.506 million and 1.584 million units respectively, a month-on-month decrease respectively. 37.5% and 35.1%, a year-on-year decrease of 25.9% and 19.9% respectively.

Why does the following phenomenon occur?

Chen Shihua analyzed that February this year experienced a complete Spring Festival holiday, the effective working days were reduced, the manufacturing industry was in the traditional production off-season, corporate production and operations were affected to a certain extent, and market activity overall declined.

At the same time, some demand for car purchases has been released before the Spring Festival, and car production and sales have generally declined compared with January.

Chen Shihua also pointed out that automobiles are an industry with outstanding economic performance and are the "ballast stone" for the steady growth of the industrial economy.

Judging from the operation situation from January to February, passenger cars and commercial vehicles continued to operate smoothly, and new energy vehicles and automobile exports continued to perform well.

Looking at the trend, my country's economy as a whole continues to expand, and business expectations are relatively stable.

Affected by this, the market share of Chinese brands that are developing new energy vehicles continues to increase.

From January to February 2024, the sales volume of Chinese brand passenger cars reached 2.066 million units, a year-on-year increase of 26.7%, and the market share reached 59.9%.

The above data means that for every 10 new cars sold in the market, 3 are new energy vehicles; at the same time, nearly 6 out of 10 new cars are Chinese brand cars.

In the next few years, the market sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles will continue to grow.
