In Gaza, “a real mafia gets its hands on almost all the aid”

The war in Gaza is entering its sixth month.

Death, Israeli bombings, diseases, lack of water, food and now a new scourge is added: crime.

With the gradual dismantling of Hamas, until then in power in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian territory is experiencing a collapse of order.

There is no more government, and therefore no more authority.

Gangs are emerging and taking advantage of the distress of a deprived population.

Humanitarian aid is trickling into the Gaza Strip.

The territory is sealed off by Israel, which drastically limits the passage of convoys loaded with food and medicine.

But once there, this aid benefits the population very little, Randa regrets: “

There is a real mafia which gets its hands on almost all the aid.

And in the end, there is nothing left for us.

And it is the same situation in the north, in the center and in the south of the Gaza Strip.

 »

The aid is resold to the Gazan population at exorbitant prices.

Before the war, a bag of flour cost around ten dollars.

It is now over $200.

“

Managing to feed your family every day is a feat

,” says Nader, father of three children.

“

We have no choice, to eat, we have to go into debt… 150 days of war and the situation is only getting worse, it's a catastrophe

 ,” he laments.

In the north of the Gaza Strip, the anarchy is such that house looting is increasing.

Faced with this exponential crime caused by the war, the World Food Program announced that it would stop its food deliveries to the north of the enclave two weeks ago.
