20 billion euros in savings, a surprising figure

“To construct next year's budget and to meet our objective, which we maintain of bringing the deficit below 3%, we must increase our effort from 12 to at least 20 billion euros in additional savings for the year 2025", announced the Minister for Public Accounts, Thomas Cazenave before the Finance Committee of the National Assembly.

According to information from Europe 1, the figure surprised even those around Bruno Le Maire, who still had a minimum of 12 billion euros yesterday.

Faced with the Commission, the minister has in any case outlined some avenues for savings.

“Can we still afford to reimburse the entirety of medical transport for 5.7 billion euros per year? Can we still afford the number of days of absence, which is 17 per year? year in local authority staff, 12 in the private sector and ten in state services? For me, all these questions, the answer is no", he declared.

Notable absence is the idea of de-indexing pensions.

It would save several billion euros but the subject is so sensitive as an election approaches.
