Jordan: mobilization in Amman against the renewal of the lease of a park partly managed by Israel

A few days before the expiration of the lease for the Jordan Valley Environmental Park, which is due to take place on March 9, 2024, and which is operated by Ecopeace, an Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian environmentalist organization, associations, politicians and social figures Jordanian civilians are mobilizing to ask not to renew the contract for the park, partly operated by Israel, against the backdrop of the war in Gaza.

in Amman that around a hundred demonstrators gathered to protest against the renewal of the rental contract for Sharhabil Bin Hassneh Eco Park: a tourist complex of 21 hectares managed in a tripartite manner by Jordan, the Palestinian Authority and Israel and whose main headquarters is in Tel Aviv.

With her baby in her arms, Aya, a Jordanian protester, explains: “ 

We want Jordan to stop its normalization with the Zionist entity.

That can not continue.

They are killing our children.

But above all, we do not want Israel to be a new tenant of the Ecopeace park next March, they must leave the partnership.

A request for 100% Jordanian management

For Asma Houwad, coordinator of the Arab nature protection organization in Jordan, present before the ministry: " 

The solution is for Jordan to become entirely free and responsible by fully regaining possession of its park and stopping the rent to Israel.

This would allow Jordan to have opportunities, create jobs for Jordanians and develop this area for the good of the region.

Pending the government's decision on March 9, 2024 to renew or not this contract, the Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement - aiming to boycott Israel - and the left party have already planned a new demonstration for the end of February .
