China News Service, Beijing, February 15 (Reporter Zhang Wenhui) What is the focus of improving people's livelihood in the new year? What policy gift packages can be expected?

Recently, Su Jian, director of the National Economic Research Center of Peking University, said in an interview with a reporter from China News Service that at the Central Economic Work Conference to be held at the end of 2023, "effectively ensuring and improving people's livelihood" will be one of the nine major tasks. Specifically, deployments are mainly made in five aspects, including employment, social security, fertility support policies, silver economy, and promoting high-quality population development.

In terms of the urgency and importance of people's livelihood, Su Jian said that the first priority in 2024 should be employment. He believes that employment is the most important and fundamental issue of people's livelihood, and there is indeed a certain pressure at present. The National Financial Work Conference held at the end of 2023 pointed out that the employment priority policy should be implemented and multiple channels should be used to support enterprises to stabilize and expand jobs and individuals to start businesses and find employment. We will improve the medical and health security system and strive to reduce the people's burden of medical treatment. We will improve the social security system and thoroughly implement the national pooling system for pension insurance. Support the strengthening of cultural construction and improve the modern public cultural service system.

Su Jian also believes that the silver economy is also a key issue of concern in the field of people's livelihood. "Aging is a real problem currently faced by China. China will enter the peak of retirement in 2022."

Recently, my country issued its first comprehensive policy document on building a talent pool for elderly care services. "In terms of social security, our country will also introduce some policies to improve the social security system, but this is a long-term matter. It will be promoted every year and will work over time to gradually form a complete social security system." Su Jian said. (over)
