As regulations on overtime work have been tightened in the construction industry since this year, labor shortages and improved working conditions have become issues, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will next month update the "labor unit price" that is the standard for wages in public works. We have decided to raise the national average by 5.9%.

Labor unit prices are used to estimate the construction costs of public works projects, serve as the standard for wages paid to people working on construction projects, and are reviewed every year.

Regarding this, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has decided to raise the national average labor unit price by 5.9% starting next month, to an average of 23,600 yen per day.

The increase is the 12th consecutive year since 2013, when the method for calculating labor costs changed significantly, and the rate of increase is the highest since 7.1% in 2014.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has stated that wages are increasing in the construction industry in line with rising prices, and reflect the most recent wage levels.

In addition, regulations on overtime work have been tightened in the construction industry since April this year, and as labor shortages and improving treatment become issues, construction companies are steadily raising wages for craftsmen and improving work efficiency. We would like to see the introduction of necessary digital technology.

Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Saito said at a press conference after the cabinet meeting, ``By strongly urging construction companies to raise wages for on-site workers, we hope to create a virtuous cycle that will allow us to further raise labor costs in the future.'' said.
