Renesas Electronics, a major semiconductor company, has announced that it will acquire an American software company for approximately 880 billion yen in order to develop and design semiconductor products in a short period of time. Semiconductor products that incorporate multiple chips are becoming increasingly complex in design, and the company aims to increase its competitiveness through acquisitions.

According to the announcement, Renesas Electronics has agreed to acquire all the shares of American software company Altium.

The acquisition price is approximately 880 billion yen, and the plan is to complete the acquisition in the second half of this year, subject to approval from Altium's shareholders and the relevant authorities in each country.

Renesas manufactures semiconductor products that incorporate multiple semiconductor chips for use in automobiles, industrial equipment, etc., but development and design are becoming more complex as performance increases.

Altium produces software that allows the design of printed circuit boards used in semiconductor products on the cloud, and has a high market share worldwide.

Through the acquisition, Renesas aims to centralize its design system, speed up development and design, and increase its competitiveness.

In the semiconductor field, global competition is intensifying due to rapid growth in demand, and Renesas is strengthening its business through corporate acquisitions, such as acquiring a British semiconductor design company in 2021. We are accelerating our strategy.
