, died this Thursday in Madrid at the age of 89 after a long illness, according to family sources informed EFE.

José Lladó Fernández-Urrutia, born in

Madrid

in 1934, was founding president and main shareholder of the Spanish multinational engineering and infrastructure company Técnicas Reunidas.

He was Minister of Commerce between 1976 and 1977 and later of Transport and Communications, in both cases under the presidency of

Adolfo Suárez

. Between 1978 and 1982 he was Spanish ambassador in Washington.

Doctor in Chemical Sciences, he was an honorary member of the American Chemical Society.

He was the first president of the

Royal Board of Trustees of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía

(1986-1994), founding patron and vice president of the Colegio Libre de Emeritus Universitarios, patron of the Prince of Asturias Foundation, president of the Arts Jury of the Prince of Asturias since 1991 and president of the Xavier Zubiri Foundation.
