Nidek, a major electronic components company headquartered in Kyoto, has announced that Vice President Mitsuya Kishida will become president and CEO on April 1st. Shigenobu Nagamori, the founder and current chairman and CEO, will work on corporate acquisitions as the representative of the global group.

Nidek held an extraordinary board of directors meeting on the 14th, and it was decided that Vice President Mitsuya Kishida would become president and CEO on April 1st of this year.

Mr. Kishida is 64 years old. He joined Nidek a year ago after working as a managing director at Sony, and has been serving as vice president since last year.

In addition, founder Shigenobu Nagamori, who currently serves as chairman and CEO, will become global group representative, and Hiroshi Kobe, currently president and COO, will become chairman.

Mr. Nagamori will serve as global group representative for up to four years, working on corporate acquisitions and human resource development.

Choosing a successor for Mr. Nagamori has been a long-standing issue for Nidek, and it seems likely that the issue will be whether the company can smoothly hand over management to Mr. Kishida, who will become the new president and CEO.

Mr. Kishida: ``I want to return to my roots and accomplish my second founding''

At a press conference on the 14th, Mitsuya Kishida said, ``Now that the world of manufacturing itself is changing, I want to further strengthen what we have, learn what doesn't exist, and grasp the big dreams of the future.'' ``I would like to return to our roots and achieve our second founding.''

In addition, Shigenobu Nagamori, who will be the representative of the global group, said, ``It was difficult to find someone who fits our company's culture, but I have high expectations for new president Kishida, so I want him to do whatever he wants. Since acquiring a company is not something that can be easily handed over to someone else, I have decided to let me handle that for the time being."
