  Beijing, February 12 (Reporter Zhang Tianpei) Reporters recently learned from the Ministry of Public Security that the number of motor vehicles nationwide will reach 435 million in 2023, including 336 million cars. There will be 24.29 million new licensed drivers in 2023, and the number of motor vehicle drivers currently reaches 523 million, including 486 million car drivers.

  In 2023, there will be 34.8 million newly registered motor vehicles nationwide, an increase of 16,000 vehicles compared with 2022. Among them, there were 24.56 million newly registered vehicles, an increase of 1.33 million vehicles or 5.73% compared with 2022. Since 2014, the number of new registrations has exceeded 20 million vehicles for 10 consecutive years.

  In 2023, 94 cities across the country will have more than one million cars, an increase of 10 cities compared with 2022, of which 43 cities will have more than 2 million cars and 25 cities will have more than 3 million cars.

  As of the end of 2023, the number of new energy vehicles in the country reached 20.41 million, accounting for 6.07% of the total number of vehicles; of which there were 15.52 million pure electric vehicles, accounting for 76.04% of the number of new energy vehicles. In 2023, 7.43 million new energy vehicles will be newly registered, accounting for 30.25% of the number of newly registered vehicles, an increase of 2.07 million vehicles or 38.76% compared with 2022.

  In 2023, public security and traffic control departments across the country handled a total of 34.15 million motor vehicle transfer registrations. Among them, there were 31.87 million car transfer registration transactions. Since 2020, the number of second-hand car transaction registrations nationwide has exceeded the number of new car registrations for four consecutive years.
