According to people involved, SoftBank and Nvidia will soon establish a new industry association with the aim of commercializing technology that utilizes mobile phone base stations to distribute AI processing.

Through decentralization, AI processing can be performed without going through large-scale data centers, and advanced AI services can be provided on smartphones.

The new industry organization is called the AI-RAN Alliance, and approximately 10 companies from around the world will participate, including telecommunications giants Ericsson and Nokia, with the aim of standardizing the technology worldwide.

On the other hand, by installing AI functions in base stations, it is possible to automate the control of multiple base stations and eliminate the difficulty in connecting due to calls and communications being concentrated on a specific base station.

SoftBank alone has approximately 200,000 mobile phone base stations installed across the country, and they are attracting attention as a new way to utilize them.
