As Chinese manufacturers make an offensive in Thailand's new car market, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Saito met with Thailand's Minister of Industry, who was visiting Japan. In order to strengthen our competitiveness in fields such as EV (electric vehicles), we signed a memorandum of understanding that includes cooperation in developing human resources and building a parts supply chain.

Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Saito met with Thailand's Minister of Industry Pimpattara in Tokyo and exchanged a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of Thailand's next-generation automobile industry, including the development and production of EVs.

The memorandum signed this time aims to

advance bilateral cooperation in areas

such as human resource development,

decarbonization of manufacturing processes

, and strengthening the supply chain in order to advance Thailand's manufacturing industry.

I have confirmed.

Thailand is also known as the "stronghold of Japanese cars," and a few years ago, Japanese manufacturers accounted for nearly 90% of sales.

However, recently, Chinese manufacturers have been aggressive in EV sales, and in the past year, Japanese manufacturers' market share has fallen below 80%, making strengthening their competitiveness an issue.

During the meeting, Minister Saito said, ``Both countries are proceeding with the implementation of the ``Energy and Industry Dialogue'' based on the agreement reached at last year's summit meeting, and human resource development and decarbonization in the manufacturing industry are central to this. I hope that today's discussion will lead to the early launch of dialogue."

In response, Industry Minister Pimpattara said, ``I believe that this memorandum will enable the Thai and Japanese automobile industries to overcome the current barriers and changes.''
