It is clarified that the Ministry of Finance justified this step by the need to increase transparency and efficiency of control over the circulation of jewelry, as well as to protect the interests of purchasers of precious stones.

At the same time, the department indicated to the publication that the corresponding step is associated with an increase in the number of transactions with diamonds after the abolition of VAT on their purchase by individuals in banks.

Earlier, the Russian government prepared a draft resolution proposing to oblige banks to check the tax residency of clients by geolocation.
