During the warning strike by ground staff planned for Wednesday, passengers on canceled Lufthansa flights should under no circumstances come to the airport. “Due to the strike, the rebooking counters are unfortunately not staffed,” the airline writes on its website. Free rebooking options are available via lufthansa.com, the customer app and the service center. Tickets for domestic flights could be converted into vouchers for train journeys.

The Ver.di union has called on the ground staff of various Lufthansa companies to go on a warning strike from 4 a.m. on Wednesday until Thursday morning. The Lufthansa core company expects that 80 to 90 percent of its flights planned for Wednesday will be canceled. The flight plan already contains the first cancellations to the Far East from Frankfurt and Munich for late Tuesday evening. The company spoke of more than 100,000 affected passengers who will have to change their plans.

The Lufthansa locations in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf are on strike. The impact on flights of other airlines within and outside the Lufthansa Group is still unclear.

The effects of the two-day pilots' strike on Sunday and Monday at the Lufthansa-owned holiday airline Discover Airlines were primarily felt by long-distance travelers. With a total of 27 planned departures from Frankfurt am Main, 90 percent of the short and medium-haul flights took off, a spokeswoman said on Monday. Discover has launched some flights itself and roped in partner airlines. According to information, only 30 percent of the flight program could be realized on long-haul routes.

The Cockpit Association, on the other hand, spoke of a high level of participation in the pilots' strike. The Discover employees had given an impressive show of unity, the union said on Tuesday after the strike ended.
