Syria: seven Kurdish fighters killed in drone attack on US base

The attack targeted a military training academy at Al-Omar field in Syria. It was claimed by the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” and comes after retaliatory strikes carried out by the United States last week against elite Iranian forces and pro-Iranian armed groups in Syria and Iraq.

The SDF, which includes Arab and Syriac Christian factions, has spearheaded the fight against IS. They are supported by the United States, as part of the international anti-jihadist coalition, through several bases. The one located on the Al-Omar oil field is the largest in Syria.

For the director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (OSDH), Rami Abdel Rahman, this is the “

first attack by pro-Iranian groups against American bases since the strikes

” carried out by Washington in the night from Friday February 2 to Saturday February 3. The latter targeted elite Iranian forces and pro-Iranian armed groups in Syria and Iraq and left at least 45 dead.
