The food retailer Edeka and the US food company Mars have apparently ended their long-running dispute over price increases. First of all, chewing gum produced by Mars would be back on the shelves, reports the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Further products such as chocolate bars or animal feed from Whiskas could follow soon.

“It is our interest to work in partnership and successfully with all trading companies,” said a Mars spokeswoman, according to the paper. Edeka said: “The ordering and delivery times have already been defined for all categories.” The introduction would take place gradually.

The dispute between the two companies had dragged on for many months and was considered one of the most heated price wars in the food retail sector. According to a report in the “Lebensmittel-Zeitung”, Edeka exchanged 450 Mars products for goods from alternative manufacturers or own brands. The reason: Edeka rejects Mars' price demands in the "clear double-digit percentage range". Neither Edeka nor Mars wanted to comment to the “FAZ” on the reasons for the price war.

Edeka dealt with the delivery stop aggressively in its communication with customers: With regard to a popular semi-finished pasta dish, the supermarket chain's advertising catalogs say: “Bye Miracoli. Hello Delverde.”

Delivery stops are almost the order of the day

The dispute between Edeka and Mars is not the only price war that the German food trade has experienced recently - on the contrary, delivery stops already seem to be the order of the day. Edeka is still in a dispute with the Kellogg's group, whose products can no longer be found on the shelves. Rewe also did not have the cereal manufacturer's food in its range for a while.
