As international competition for the development of generative AI intensifies, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will make cloud services used for AI data learning available for free to domestic start-up companies and universities, supporting the development of domestically produced generative AI. I decided to do it.

Overseas companies, including ChatGPT in the United States, are leading the way in the development of generative AI, and strengthening domestic development capabilities is an issue.

Under these circumstances, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has decided to spend 8.4 billion yen to support the development of generative AI by seven organizations including domestic startup companies and universities.

Specifically, the company will borrow cloud services from Google in the United States, and will be able to use them free of charge for six months for purposes such as AI data learning.

Each organization receiving support will aim to develop a ``large-scale language model'' that is also compatible with Japanese and will serve as the basis for generative AI, as well as a model with a view to fully autonomous driving.

Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Saito said at a press conference after the Cabinet meeting on the 2nd, ``Japan will continue to work with a sense of speed to strengthen its development capabilities in generative AI so that we can create innovations that last into the future.''
