South Korea's Samsung Electronics announced that last year's semiconductor division had the largest operating loss ever. However, demand is said to be recovering due to the spread of generation AI, and local media are reporting that business results are expected to recover significantly this year.

On the 31st, global semiconductor manufacturer Samsung Electronics announced its financial results for the three months ending December.

Among these, the operating profit and loss of the mainstay semiconductor division was 2.18 trillion won, or more than 241.5 billion yen in Japanese yen, and as a result, the operating profit and loss for last year was 14.88 trillion won, or approximately 1. It is said that the deficit was 650 billion yen.

This is the largest deficit in the semiconductor sector since 2008 and the first time in 15 years.

However, the quarterly deficit narrowed last year, and Samsung Electronics says it is ``generally on a recovery trend'' due to increased demand for semiconductors for generative AI.

Korean media are reporting that Samsung Electronics' business performance is expected to recover significantly this year, with Yonhap News, a news agency, reporting that the company is ``evaluated to have exited the tunnel of the semiconductor recession.''
