The Mercadona

Management Committee

has decided, within the strategy of sharing the benefits, to distribute half an additional bonus among the more than 100,000 people who make up the company, which joins the objective bonus that it traditionally distributes each year.

In this way, it distributes a total of

600 million euros with its staff in 2024,

50% more than in 2023, the year in which the total amount distributed was 405 million.

Since

Mercadona

shareholders launched this initiative in 2001, the company has distributed more than

5.58 billion euros to its staff,

as reported in a statement by the chain chaired by Juan Roig. This figure reflects the "commitment to shared growth and mutual benefit," the company emphasizes.

Workers, from the first year and if they achieve the goals and objectives agreed upon at the beginning of the year,

will receive an extra monthly payment on their payroll in March,

an amount that will amount to two monthly payments once they exceed five years of seniority and, "exceptionally" this year, they will also receive an extra bonus corresponding to half of their monthly payment.

According to the chain, "this measure makes it clear that Mercadona's workers are the main people responsible for the company's success, who once again have confirmed to be the greatest asset" for the 'Bosses'", which is how internally the company calls customers.

Along these lines, he has assured that his commitment "to the constant improvement of production and management efficiency has resulted in the highest quality and most economical Menu Cart on the market", which "more people" choose every day, which means "a significant increase in the number of clients", a "consolidation" of its growth and a "constant increase" in its market share.

highlight the decision of the extra bonus for the "exceptional commitment of the more than 100,000 people who make up Mercadona to improve every day the experience of our 'Bosses', the quality of our products and the constant implementation of technological and innovative improvements that make our processes more efficient, facilitating our routine work.

In Spain in 2020, the company implemented, as a pioneer in the sector, a working day in stores of five days of work and two days off (5+2) with at least eight weekends a year off. This last measure is being progressively extended in 2024 and will end in 2025 to workers in hives (exclusive online sales warehouses) and those in logistics blocks.
