• After one year. The Sepe awards destination to a thousand officials but 277 are still waiting despite the collapse

The Ombudsman, Ángel Gabilondo, former Minister of Education between 2009 and 2011 and former candidate for the presidency of the Community of Madrid, will intercede with the Ministry of Finance and Public Function for the opponents of the State Public Employment Service (Sepe) who, having their place approved to join the body, have been waiting for months to be awarded destination.

"Once your complaint has been examined, it is considered admitted, considering that it meets the requirements laid down in article 54 of the Constitution and in the Organic Law of 6 April 1981 regulating the Ombudsman. The appropriate proceedings are initiated before the Secretary of State for Public Function. As soon as the requested information is received, this institution will contact you again, "the Ombudsman informed those affected on Tuesday in a letter to which EL MUNDO has had access.

These 277 opponents who approved their place resorted to this route out of desperation, since they still do not know when they will start working in the Sepe and, above all, to which city in Spain they will have to move to start a new life. Many of them will have to look for accommodation in their next destination, school place for their children and, in addition, despite having the right to a civil servant position, they have been without income for months.

In addition to suffering their personal situation, which they consider unfair, these people observe with perplexity that the Ministry directed by María Jesús Montero does not have time to award them destination but to launch a call for the Sepe to create bags of interim and can reinforce its staff with temporary staff, despite the commitment of the Government with the European Commission to reduce the temporality of the Administration from 31% to 8%.

When this newspaper announced the situation of these opponents at the beginning of May, the Ministry contacted them and promised them that it would assign them destination between "the end of May and the beginning of June", but as of the 7th of this month they still have no news.

They see very far the moment when they were examined (the first exam was done in November 2021 and the second in February 2022), in July of last year they already received the notes and knew that they had passed and that they would obtain a place. Then they presented their merits and the Administration published in January of this year the final list of candidates ordered by score, the same classification that must now be used to award destination. Five months later, they are still waiting.
