Deutsche Telekom logo: Simplifications planned

For a long time, Deutsche Telekom's fixed-network customers were able to save a lot of money with the so-called call-by-call area code. At the end of 2024, the possibility of switching providers from conversation to conversation will come to an end. This is announced by the Association of Telecommunications and Value-Added Service Providers (VATM).

In addition, from 2025 onwards, the handling of expensive special numbers will be simplified: Numbers starting with 0900, 0137 or 0180, for example, will then be billed "uniformly and transparently". This means that the cost of calls from landlines and mobiles will be the same. So far, the mobile phone price has usually deviated upwards. In addition, in the case of the special numbers, the price announcement before the call remains.

With the abolition of the monopoly on voice telephony services in 1998, Deutsche Telekom was obliged to offer its customers call-by-call in the interests of competition. This obligation expired in 2019. Since then, however, Deutsche Telekom has repeatedly voluntarily extended call-by-call after negotiations with the VATM.
