Every month, Europe 1 in partnership with Circana reviews food inflation, through its control basket, which brings together 12 everyday products from major brands or private labels such as rice, eggs or detergent. Objective, to monitor the rise in prices. What we must remember in May is the stability of the basket.

Europe 1 reveals this Monday its inflation basket for the month of May. The Europe 1 basket, in partnership with panelist Circana, is a selection of 12 food and hygiene products to try to give a concrete idea of the rise in prices. The Europe 1 basket is stable for this month of May, a stability that is confirmed month after month. Since March, the price of the Europe 1 basket has hardly budged. At 57 euros and 49 cents in May, it is 9 cents cheaper than in April, 26 cents more expensive only than in March.

Distributors are making efforts

This plateau can be explained in several ways. First, it is the success of the anti-inflation quarter's measures. Private label prices are stable. Our partner Circana is also observing a strategy of lowering prices at certain brands to cope with the fall in sales volumes.

And then, in the same way, distributors chose to smooth the expected price increase after the trade negotiations. Prices did not rise 10% month-on-month as feared. That said, the Europe 1 basket is stabilising at a high level. Over one year, it increased by 21.5%, or just over 10 euros.
