At a time when new urbanization continues to develop in depth, what is the level of urbanization in various places, and which places have a large urban population?

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the urban permanent population at the end of 2022 was 92071.646 million, an increase of 49104.731 million over the end of the previous year; the permanent rural population was 65.22 million, down by 0.50 million; The proportion of urban population in the national population (urbanization rate) was <>.<>%, an increase of <>.<> percentage points over the end of the previous year.

According to the 2022 statistical bulletins and public data released by various places, the first financial reporter found that the urbanization rate of 9 provinces has exceeded 70%. In terms of urban population, there are more than 4 million people in 5000 provinces, including more than 9000 million in Guangdong. In terms of the increase in urbanization rate in the past decade, Guizhou, Gansu and Ningxia ranked among the top three.

The urbanization rate of 9 provinces exceeded 70%

The urbanization rate of nine provinces, including Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Chongqing and Fujian, has exceeded 9%, an increase of one over the previous year, namely Fujian. At the end of 70, the urbanization rate of Fujian's permanent population was 1.2022%, an increase of 70.11 percentage points over the end of the previous year.

At present, the urbanization rate of the three municipalities directly under the central government, Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin, ranks among the top three, and all of them have exceeded 85%, which is comparable to the level of developed countries and regions. Among them, Shanghai ranked first with 89.3%; Beijing followed with 87.6%; Tianjin ranked third with 85.11%. On the whole, as urban economies, the economic development of these three municipalities is dominated by secondary and tertiary industries, and the proportion of primary and primary production population is already very small.

After the three municipalities directly under the central government, the urbanization rate of other provinces is less than 75%, among which Guangdong, the first economic province, and Jiangsu, the second largest economic province, are 74.79% and 74.4% respectively, ranking fourth and fifth respectively. Compared with the previous year, the province with the sixth urbanization rate this year has changed, and Zhejiang, which was seventh in the previous year, surpassed the northeastern province of Liaoning to rise to sixth, and the urbanization rate reached 73.4%. Liaoning retreated to seventh, with an urbanization rate of 73%.

Among the provinces with an urbanization rate of more than 70%, 7 are located in the developed eastern coastal areas, namely the three municipalities directly under the central government of Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai, and the four southeast coastal provinces - Guangdong, Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangsu; The other two provinces are Liaoning in the northeast and Chongqing, the only municipality directly under the central government in the central and western regions.

Chongqing's urbanization rate leads in the central and western regions, surpassing the southeastern coastal developed province of Fujian. According to data from the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Statistics, the urbanization rate of Chongqing's permanent population will steadily increase in 2022, reaching 70.96%, an increase of 2021.0 percentage points over 64; the urbanization level continues to lead the national average and advance faster than the whole country. In 2022, the city's urbanization rate will be 5.74 percentage points higher than the national average, and the growth rate will be 0.14 percentage points faster than the national average.

In terms of the total urban population, the top ten provinces are Guangdong, Shandong, Jiangsu, Henan, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Hebei, Hunan, Hubei and Anhui, all of which are large provinces with a total permanent population of more than 5000 million; There are four provinces with urban populations of more than 4 million: Guangdong, Shandong, Jiangsu and Henan.

Guangdong's urban population reached 9465.4 million, more than 2900 million more than Shandong, which ranked second. Peng Peng, executive president of the Guangdong Provincial Physical Reform Research Association, analyzed that compared with rural areas, the per capita income of cities and towns is higher, and consumption will be much more. Guangdong has a large urban population and a high per capita consumption expenditure level, forming a very large consumer market.

After Guangdong, Shandong, the third largest economic province, has an urban population of 6559.6335 million, ranking second. Although Jiangsu, the second largest economic province, ranks fourth in terms of total permanent population, due to the high urbanization rate, the total urban population ranks third, reaching <>.<> million.

These areas have great potential for urbanization

In terms of rural population, there are more than 11 million people in 2000 provinces, of which four provinces have more than 3000 million rural populations, namely Henan, Shandong, Sichuan and Guangdong. Henan, a province with a large population in central China, currently has a permanent rural population of 4239.<> million, ranking first in the country.

Areas with large rural populations and relatively low urbanization rates mean that the potential for urbanization in the future is still relatively large. In general, some provinces with large populations whose urbanization rate is still lower than 65.2% nationwide are regions with greater urbanization potential in the future.

Taking Henan as an example, the province's total permanent population ranks third, close to 1 million, and the urbanization rate is only 57.07%, 8.13 percentage points lower than the national average, and there is a very large distance from Guangdong, Jiangsu and Zhejiang on the southeast coast. Sichuan, a province with a large population in the southwest, has an urbanization rate of only 58.35%, 6.85 percentage points lower than the national average.

On the whole, the areas with relatively large urbanization rate potential in China mainly include the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain and the southwest and middle reaches of the Yangtze River. In particular, the Huang-Huai-Hai Great Plain includes Henan, Hebei, Shandong, Anhui and northern Jiangsu.

Niu Fengrui, president of the Research Institute of Small and Medium-sized Cities, analyzed the first financial and economic analysis that the Huanghuaihai Great Plain has good agricultural production conditions and high population density, so the agricultural population is relatively large, although some people go out to work, but the number of people left behind is still very large. The region can give full play to this advantage, undertake industrial spillover and settlement in the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and other places, and accelerate the urbanization process.

In the past 10 years, the national urbanization rate has increased from 2012.53% in 1 to 2022.65% in 2, an increase of 12.1 percentage points. In terms of provinces, a total of 18 provinces increased faster than the national level. These provinces are mainly located in the central and western regions, with only Shandong and Hebei located in the east.

Among them, six provinces, including Guizhou, Gansu, Ningxia, Henan, Hebei and Sichuan, have increased their urbanization rate by 10 percentage points or more in 15 years. Guizhou's urbanization rate has increased by 18.51 percentage points over the past seven years, ranking first.

Niu Fengrui said that on the whole, the urbanization process in the central and western regions is relatively late, the original urbanization base is relatively low, and there is a relatively rapid increase in a certain period of time, which is also a phased phenomenon. Especially as the central and western regions undertake a large number of industrial transfers and settlements in coastal areas, it has attracted many rural people to work. Moreover, the proportion of migrant workers in these areas is getting higher and higher, the cost of nearby urbanization is relatively low, and it is convenient to take care of the elderly and children, which is also conducive to local urbanization.

In contrast, seven provinces have seen urbanization rates increase by less than 7 percentage points in the past 10 years: Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Liaoning, Guangdong, Jilin and Heilongjiang.

As urban economies, the three municipalities directly under the central government, Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin, have a high urbanization rate; As the forefront of China's reform and opening up, Guangdong's urbanization rate has increased rapidly after reform and opening up. Therefore, the urbanization increase in these provinces in the past decade has also been relatively small.

Niu Fengrui said that industrialization and urbanization in the northeast region are also relatively early; At the same time, in recent years, many young people have gone to the southeast coast to find employment, which will also lead to a relatively small increase in urbanization.
