39 billion pieces in 100 days, 67 billion pieces in 200 days, 96 billion pieces in 300 days, and 124 billion pieces in 400 days. Since the beginning of this year, China's express delivery industry as a whole has shown a trend of stabilization and recovery, and the growth rate of business volume has accelerated month by month. Monitoring data from the State Post Bureau shows that as of May 5, China's express delivery business volume has reached 4 billion pieces in 2023, 400 days earlier than the 2019 billion pieces in 400 and 128 days earlier than in 2022.

"The express delivery business is linked to production supply and consumer demand, and is a 'barometer' of economic activity and consumption vitality, which is closely related to economic growth." Liu Xiangdong, deputy director of the Economic Research Department of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges, said in an interview with the "Securities Daily" reporter that the rapid growth of express delivery business has a leading supporting role in economic growth, which can fully reflect the activity of economic expansion and indicate that the economic recovery is obvious.

As for the reasons for the growth of express delivery business, the interviewed experts unanimously believe that it is mainly due to the strong demand on the consumer side, the stable supply on the supply side and the continuous improvement of the service guarantee capacity of the express delivery industry.

Fu Yifu, senior researcher of Star Map Financial Research Institute, said that the consumer market has gradually recovered, coupled with the fact that all parts of the country have been "fighting for the economy" since this year, and various favorable policies have been continuously introduced, driving the strong growth of express delivery business.

Wang Peng, a researcher at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, told the "Securities Daily" reporter that since the beginning of this year, under the background of "expanding domestic demand, promoting consumption and stabilizing growth", the production and operation activities of Chinese enterprises have been restored in an orderly manner, and relevant policies have been continuously introduced on the policy side to stabilize supply, for example, the Ministry of Finance and the State Administration of Taxation have issued a number of preferential tax policies to reduce the burden on employers and support the development of small and micro enterprises and individual industrial and commercial enterprises.

In addition to the contribution of demand and supply, the continuous improvement of the express industry's own service guarantee capacity has also played a positive role in the growth of China's express delivery business.

Mr. Wang, an employee of DHL Express Liaoning Branch, told the reporter of "Securities Daily" that in order to cope with the rapid growth of business volume since this year, the company launched the EShip2.0 document making system, reorganized the user process, split and reorganized the operation interface involving multiple modules involved in export order making, optimized the user filling experience, and improved transportation efficiency.

Since mid-February this year, some express delivery enterprises have accelerated the construction of new channels for express delivery to the sea, enhanced their comprehensive competitiveness in the international express logistics market, played an important role in smoothing the domestic and international dual circulation, and promoted high-quality economic development and a new round of high-level opening up.

With the continuous implementation of a series of policies to promote consumption and smooth circulation in the future, China's express delivery business volume may maintain rapid growth. To this end, Liu Xiangdong suggested that all parties in the market still need to optimize and smooth the channels between supply and demand, use new technologies and new markets to connect thousands of cities and industries, and promote the realization of a high-level dynamic balance between supply and demand.

Fu Yifu said that on the one hand, it is necessary to further increase investment in the construction of e-commerce and logistics and express delivery infrastructure, especially to make up for the infrastructure shortcomings in rural areas and backward areas in the central and western regions as soon as possible, including improving the transportation road network, etc., and improve the urban and rural commercial and trade circulation system, encourage large-scale circulation enterprises to set up multi-level commercial outlets in different areas of urban and rural areas, and improve the commercial environment in rural areas, so as to stimulate the vitality of rural consumption; On the other hand, express delivery companies should pay more attention to the improvement of efficiency and service quality, and continue to accelerate the pace of digital transformation, so as to help upgrade the industry and boost the consumer market.
