The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has compiled a new strategy plan for strengthening the domestic semiconductor industry, which is becoming increasingly important for economic security. We have set a goal of accelerating the development of advanced semiconductor technologies that are indispensable for next-generation industries, and expanding sales in related industries in Japan to 2030 trillion yen by 3, about three times the current level.

As the economic security environment changes drastically due to the confrontation between the United States and China, the issue of the domestic semiconductor industry is whether it can stably supply semiconductors that are indispensable for next-generation industries such as autonomous driving and AI = artificial intelligence.

In response to this, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) compiled a new strategy plan for strengthening the domestic semiconductor industry and presented it at an expert meeting held on March 3.

As a result, in addition to accelerating the establishment of manufacturing technology for advanced 2-nanometer semiconductors, which have not been put to practical use in Japan, the company will also promote the performance of semiconductors for storage for smartphones and data centers, and semiconductors used to control electric vehicles.

Through these efforts, we have set a goal of expanding sales in domestic semiconductor-related industries to 2030 trillion yen by 3, about three times the current level.

In order to achieve the target, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has stated that it will need to invest more than 15 trillion yen in the public and private sectors in the next 10 years, and plans to collaborate with like-minded countries such as the United States and the Netherlands in research and development to strengthen the semiconductor supply chain = supply network.
